What's new in Concentration. Currently on v1.0.
v1.0
Jul 2026- Concentration is 1.0! 🎉 Thank you — properly. Since launch you've played 4,600+ games, and every guess we didn't recognise gets a human look: 6,500+ of them reviewed so far. That's how your near-misses become accepted answers, your misspellings start counting, and wrong guesses learn to explain themselves. You've made the game smarter than we ever could alone. 💛
- Leaderboards on every category. Finish any round — not just the daily — and a board shows exactly where your score lands, with player avatars and colours right beside each name.
- Play without an account, and keep everything. You can play, build a streak and rank on boards as a guest. Sign up whenever you like and every score, stat and streak carries straight over — nothing you played is lost.
- Themed starter decks. A new set of Recommended decks on the Custom page drops you into a ready-made theme — Bookworm, Globetrotter, Screen Junkie, Music Buff and more — including a rollable “Starts with…” wordplay deck that lands on any letter, weighted by how many answers it holds.
- See your spot before you claim it. Guests now get an end-of-game card with a mini-leaderboard — the player just above you, your score, and the one you'd bump down — so you can see exactly what an account gets you.
- Answer suggestions, now on names too. The type-ahead helper reaches actor, musician and celebrity categories — and it's farm-proof: its word pool is seeded with 110,000+ names so it can never just list a category's answers. On name categories it holds back until you're a few letters into the surname, so it helps you spell “Tennant” without handing you the answer.
- Daily streaks that follow you. Streaks now live on the server, so switching between phone and laptop can't reset them — and your current streak shows on your profile and next to your name on the leaderboard.
- The daily got theatrical. The daily challenge spins up on a slot-machine reveal (with a live letter roll for “starts with…” days), never repeats a theme two days running, and only ever draws from categories you can actually play.
- World records, done right. Beat a category's best and you hold its crown, shown on your profile — and the record you're chasing is always the top score among ranked players, so it matches the #1 you can see on the board.
- Full proper names everywhere. Answers now show their complete canonical name across every category — your word list reads “Ludwig van Beethoven,” even if you just typed the surname to score it.
- A new avatar + leaderboard polish. Player avatars and colours now sit beside every name on the boards, the theme filters are reorganised into a cleaner layout, and there's a new film-reel avatar for the pop-culture crowd.
- A far bigger, sharper answer bank. Through 29 rounds of combing your guesses, thousands of answers were added and cleaned: misspellings fold in as aliases, plausible-but-wrong guesses get a note explaining why (“that's an engineer, not a scientist”), and junk was weeded out. Plus the full Rolling Stones discography, 1,000+ sci-fi authors, and much deeper birds, poets, desserts, foods, names and dog breeds.
v0.9
- Answer suggestions! As you type, a dropdown offers possible words so you do less typing and more thinking. It's drawn from every category at once, so it never simply hands you the answer — you still have to know which one fits — and it stays out of spelling-pattern rounds (“starts with Qu”…) where it would give the game away. On by default for Entertainment, Geography, TV and a set of proper-noun categories (authors, composers, superheroes, scientists and more). Turn it off any time in Settings.
- Wrong guesses now clear themselves — no more backspacing a rejected word. Miss, and the box empties with a buzz so you're straight back to typing.
- The letter-reveal powerup is now a single charge (no more stacking three), and its wand mark is smarter: any word you START with the reveal gets tagged, not just the ones it finishes for you.
- End-of-match review fixed: after a mid-game reconnect the words, categories and your struck-through finds all line up with the right round again.
- The difficulty preview on the setup screen no longer pauses or blocks your clicks — it only pops after a brief hover and never steals a tap meant for the cards above it.
- Loads of category work: the full Rolling Stones discography, a massive sci-fi authors list (1000+) and a much deeper detective novelists list, the two Congos sorted out, and new answers across Birds, Fruits, Desserts, TV, names and dog breeds. Punk bands retired.
v0.8
- Challenge a mate! Finish the daily and a shareable card slides in — your words found broken down by rarity, your points, combo bonus and brain score. Send it with a “Beat my score” link and see if a friend can top you.
- Time boost comes to versus: the seconds-back-per-correct-guess setting now works in multiplayer, and running out of time no longer cuts off a rival who banked extra clock — everyone plays their full time and every point counts.
- The found counter in versus now grows a second snake for your opponents' finds combined — watch both climb, and when they meet in the middle the round's done: every answer's been claimed.
- No more sitting in an emptied round — once every word is found the round ends for everyone, straight to the next.
- Your words now show exactly what you typed: guess “lime tree” and it reads “Lime Tree”, not the surprising entry it matched behind the scenes.
- The letter-reveal powerup is switched off in three-letter categories (like Body parts) where revealing three letters simply handed you the whole word.
- Points bar fixed: it now fills to your true share of the world record, so the WR marker at the top actually means something.
- Category tidy: “Bird species” is now just “Birds”, Boab folds into Baobab, and a stray duplicate was retired — with more categories in the works.
v0.7
- Play a deck with your mates! Build a custom deck, hit Play with friends, and send the private invite link — everyone who joins drafts from your categories in a closed lobby (1v1 up to 5 players). In the same room? Just punch in the host's code on the Custom page to jump in.
- Nobody gets stranded when someone leaves: if an opponent bails mid-match you play on to take the win — skip through the remaining rounds, with a visible countdown so you're never stuck waiting on a ghost. A level score against a player who's gone no longer drags you into a pointless sudden-death.
- The letter-reveal powerup now leaves its mark: any answer you crack open with it gets a little wand icon in the word lists — and in versus your opponents see it too. Still full points, but no more quietly leaning on the reveal.
- The daily challenge now rotates the community's proven favourites — categories people actually stick with (well-played, with a bit of meat to them) — and never lands on the same theme two days in a row.
- Smarter wrong-answer hints: name a pterosaur in Dinosaurs and it'll tell you it's a pterosaur, not a dinosaur; guess a big city that's just under the cut in Megacities (Sydney, San Francisco, Toronto…) and it'll say why. Seoul's now counted.
- Category tidy-up: retired Ancient wonders, trimmed the Bones list down to actual bones, and added a few requested names (Ahmed, Aristotle).
- UI polish: neater theme and match-settings cards, and the daily theme badge now sits right by the Today pill.
v0.6
- Power-ups! Two in every game, solo or versus: a +30s stopwatch to buy yourself time (once per round), and a letter-reveal that peels an answer open when you're stuck — you earn a fresh reveal every second correct answer, stacking up to three.
- World records! Beat the all-time high on a category and a full-screen WORLD RECORD celebration takes over, then your points bar slowly climbs to the new high with a suspenseful counting build-up. A gold WR marker on the bar shows the score to chase.
- Full names everywhere: poets, authors, classical composers, scientists and US presidents now show the complete name (Robert Frost, Ludwig van Beethoven, Abraham Lincoln…) — and you can answer with just the surname or the full name. Presidents link straight to the right Wikipedia page.
- Poets category rebuilt and fact-checked — 300+ real poets across every era and culture, with the fakes and non-poets weeded out.
- Cleaner categories: dinosaurs no longer sneak in pterosaurs or sea reptiles, duplicate Apple products folded together, and the broad 'foods' grab-bag no longer turns up in random or daily (still there to play directly).
- No more back-to-back repeats — the random spinner won't hand you the same category twice in a row, even on a narrow theme.
- A fresh Custom Deck button on the home screen, a punchier Pick-a-mode screen with bigger icons and type, and larger, easier-to-read theme and difficulty cards.
- Added a bunch of requested names (Annabelle, Mae, Ken, Liz, Lizzie, Leela) and more.
v0.5
- Teams! 2v2 versus on one shared board — pair up, race the rivals, and the higher team total wins. Team colours, a live team scoreboard, and team ranking points.
- Rock-solid round timing: rounds now run on a shared server clock, so a phone that sleeps or drops out can't desync the match — everyone starts each round together, and nobody's rewarded for leaving.
- Car brands category expanded and audited — now 460 real marques from Abarth to Zenvo (dropped a few non-cars, deduped, fixed the tiers).
- Cloud save: your streak, history and custom decks now follow you across devices when playing on partner sites.
- Loads of mobile polish: uniform player pills, guess feedback + combo on their own row, the mode picker scrolls straight to your options, a cleaner profile card and match cards, per-word time bar dropped on mobile, and review arrows that jump back to the top.
v0.4
- Correct guesses pop! Fruit-ninja score bursts with tier-coloured points, then the word settles into your list.
- Opponent flair: enemy sound cues that scale with rarity and streaks, 🚫 blocked bursts when they beat you to a word, and their points on show.
- Fairer versus: synced round clocks that survive refreshes, a disconnect watchdog (30s countdown, then the match moves on), and cooldowns only for abandoning mid-match.
- Multiplayer matches now show as one card on your profile — 1v1 or free-for-all, with per-round win/loss when you unfold it.
- Leaderboard movement arrows: see who climbed or slipped in the last 24 hours.
- Mobile polish: match settings accordion, first-tap-after-scroll fix, tighter theme picker, no more clipped words.
- Categories: Olympic sports & disciplines rebuild, water/ocean/river cross-hints (“that's an ocean!”), DC alter-ego folds, whisky goes hard difficulty, TV shows back in the pool.
- Friendlier 3-2-1 countdown, 15s category picks, and missed-words nav arrows at the bottom.
v0.3
- Sudden-death tiebreakers (up to 3) when a match ends level — epic slide, slot-machine cat reveal.
- “All words found!” now ends the round for everyone with a slide, not just the last player.
- Match settings: “Categories you pick/play”, 1–4 options, and no category ever repeats in a game.
- “Starting with…” families (Movies, TV, etc.) roll as one — lands, then quick-picks the letter.
- Profile recently-played now shows win/lose + daily leaderboard rank, printed like a stamp.
- Loads of polish: centred titles, chat/surrender rework, glossy cards, and a big -ology category.
- 💛 Thank you to everyone testing — special shout-out to matt, miles, marioferpa, and oryxthemadbot for the feedback.
v0.2
- Duplicate answers now clear the input in solo and versus.
- Faster game setup: All/None/Save/Load moved above Continue; Default/Save/Load presets for match settings.
- Cleaner match screen: leave button (✕) now sits inline with chat.
- Removed the home-screen intro splash and chime for a quicker start.
- SEO + analytics groundwork and tightened server security headers.
v0.1
- First public build of Concentration.
- Daily challenge, random spin, and build-your-own custom decks.
- 1v1–5p multiplayer versus with live scoring, draft, and ranking.
- End-of-round results: par-scaled points bar, brain score, and a personal-best break.
- Hundreds of categories across geography, food, words, names, trivia and more.
